Our reef project with the United World College Thailand & the University of Southampton
Reef Monitoring
For the past eight years, we have partnered with UWC Thailand and the University of Southampton’s Marine Biology Department to protect and study the coral reefs of Nai Yang.
Together with the student group Manta Coral, we conduct structured underwater surveys twice a month. During each survey, we record fish and coral species, identify non-mobile marine life, and monitor coral coloration.
All collected data is submitted directly to the research team at Southampton University — contributing to long-term coral reef science in the Andaman Sea.
The Manta Group
At the beginning of the season, we offer 17- to 18-year-old participants training as Open Water and Advanced Open Water Divers – with 50% of the course fees covered by us.
Many begin as beginners and later take responsibility for supporting new team members — an important part of building real ocean stewardship.
Over the years, several participants have gone on to study marine biology inspired by this program.
After each monitoring dive, we enjoy a relaxed fun dive together — combining purpose, learning, and a shared love for the ocean.
